Sixth Street Viaduct Team Receives California Transportation Foundation 2022 Project of the Year Award

The Sixth Street Viaduct team was chosen as the winner of the prestigious “Charles J. Pankow Award” at this year’s ACI SoCal Concrete Awards.

We are proud of all the planning, building, and ingenuity that went into the replacement of the iconic LA bridge. Congratulations, team!

About this project:

This complex project was for the demolition and reconstruction of the iconic Sixth Street Viaduct, located just east of downtown Los Angeles. The new bridge consists of 11 concrete arch spans connecting the Arts District to Boyle Heights. The project also included the construction of a new river gateway portal to the Los Angeles River. This new tunnel structure extends beneath nine active railroad lines. Associated work included utility relocations, intersection reconstruction, a multi-use walkway, and a 12-acre community park below the new bridge. The bridge crosses over Hwy. 101, the Los Angeles River, and two major railroad corridors totaling 18 tracks. The site is in the most filmed area of Los Angeles; project requirements included coordinating with the film industry to allow access.
