Primary Function

Direct overall engineering effort for project, including in-house field/office engineering and outside professional engineering.  Support project administration functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct preparation and approval of Contract shop drawings and other required submittals.
  •  Support the development, updating, and approval of the construction schedule.  Advise Project Manager of serious schedule conflicts and problems and work with field supervision to resolve schedule conflicts.
  • Review, analyze, and resolve field construction problems, discrepancies, and interferences with Project Owner, supervision, and other contractors or subcontractors.
  • Analyze permanent material requirements, solicit quotations, and prepare purchase formal subcontract.
  • Assist in subcontract negotiations and administration.
  • Review change order drawings and specifications to determine engineering, cost, with schedule inputs.
  • Engineer with pre-plan field work for constructability and safe and efficient prosecution.
  • Develop requirement for specialized equipment and work with vendor representatives for customized equipment.
  • Develop procedures with controls ensuring efficient project administration.
  • Supervise and administer field layout and surveying activities.  Includes planning, hiring, and training of personnel, assigning work, and monitoring employee performance.
  • Support/assist monitoring and forecasting of project costs and revenue.  Assist field supervision to develop new production methods to improve unit costs.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as directed by the Project Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 4 year college degree (engineering preferred) or equivalent, combinations of technical training and related experience with a minimum of 5 years of construction engineering experience related to the type of work.
  • Solid knowledge of surveying, cost accounting, equipment applications, and overall engineering is essential.
