Mid Coast Corridor Projects

Owner:
San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG)

Location:
San Diego, California

This is an extension of SANDAG’s Blue Line, extending 11 miles north from the current Old Town station to the University of California’s San Diego Campus. Seven miles of the project are in a shared corridor with LOSSAN commuter rail and freight rail traffic (Coaster, Amtrak, and BNSF). Portions of those lines will be double-tracked as part of this light rail project. The northern four-mile portion of the project is elevated, crosses Interstate 5, runs through campus, and ends at an elevated station in the center of Genesee Avenue at the University Town Center. The project requires complex staging and phasing to incorporate three separate projects. Work includes stations, bridges, utilities, roadwork, traction power, OCS, railroad coordination, retaining walls, testing, and startup.
